Studiestræde 21

I been in Copenhagen for a week now, and my experiences so far have been breathtaking to say the least! Before I arrived in Copenhagen last Sunday, I had a layover in Amsterdam that morning and it officially hit me that I’ll be away from home for 4 months. I was sitting in the Amsterdam airport watching the sun rise along with other study abroad students and in that moment I felt that I had made the right decision to take a leap of faith in trying something I never had before in my life.

Once I got to my apartment, I was so impressed by how it was at the heart of the city! Studiestræde 21 (by the end of the semester I have to know how to pronounce it correctly!) is located in downtown Copenhagen, surrounded by bars, coffee shops, and restaurants. Exploring new things will be very easy. The best part of it all is that I live a short 2 minute walk from all my classes!

I live in the Public Health LLC (Living Learning Community) and everyone has been so great! I think living here will allow me to experience Denmark in the lens of my future career aspirations as well as with other people who have similar interests as me. This Thursday we’re visiting a sauna as part of Danish tradition: to immerse yourself in ice cold water followed by hot water to prevent illnesses during the winter season.

So far I’ve been taking everything thing in with open arms. From learning how to watch for bikes when crossing the street and using Google translate in the grocery store so that I don’t buy the wrong milk (which I already did twice; I bought yogurt the first time and buttermilk the second time). I take it all as learning experiences. I’m picking up some Danish words from the countless times Danes start speaking to me in Danish and immediately switch to English when I smile at them in confusion. “Undskyld” means sorry which I’ve heard the most and will be using the most when I accidentally walk into the bike lane.

So far so good! I can’t wait to see how the rest of the semester progresses!

This is down my street, Studiestræde!

Farvel! (Bye!)
