Because I couldn’t bare to end my travels just yet, I decided to visit one more country before I headed back to Copenhagen. So from Finland, I was off to Sweden. Sweden reminded me a lot of Copenhagen with its cobblestone streets and colorful people. Like Copenhagen, every other building was either a museum, church, or castle. As any other tourist would, we went to the royal palace. All the palaces I’ve been to so far in Europe have been nothing short of breathtaking. To think that I was walking through the same rooms that royalty once walked through is one thing that I will always have difficulty wrapping my head around. My friends and I had way too much fun finding guards to take pictures with. No matter how hard we tried, they wouldn’t even crack a smile!
In one short day spent in Sweden, I walked a total of 22,583 steps! From walking along the harbor, to hoping from museum to museum, and sightseeing I don’t know how I did it all in such a short amount of time. One thing that was worth the walk was going to the ice bar. The ice bar is an indoor bar in a hotel where everything is made out of ice, and I mean everything! The cups, the bar itself, the chairs, you name it, all ice. We were given special gloves so that our fingers wouldn’t freeze off and a parka to keep us warm. We were even given specific instructions not to lick any of the ice because it would hurt to try and unstick out tongues from the ice (I assume it has been a problem in the past. After drinks we were served with a delicious dinner where I tried for the first time Swedish meatball, and I will say that are by far the best meatballs I’ve ever had.
With all the fun I’ve been having in these different countries, I will note that it has been extremely cold. Cold to the point where wearing 2 pairs of socks isn’t even enough. Nordic winds will slice right through you with no warning and with no trees to block out the wind, the breeze feels 100 times colder. I always envisioned my study abroad experience in a place that had more sun and was 20 degrees warmer. But I wouldn’t trade any of these experiences (no matter how cold) for the world.
Although I’m drained from traveling all week, I still can’t wait for France and Greece in 2 weeks to walk 22 thousand more steps and maybe even more!
Until my next update ❤️
