It’s already been a month since I’ve landed here in Copenhagen! In my short time here I feel like I’ve already adjusted to Danish life. I can know get to my classes and local shops without using Google Maps (huge accomplishment considering every street has a hidden alleyway making it very easy to get lost). I now have an everyday routine; after class I like studying at a cafe across the street from my apartment called the living room. I’ve also been able to meet really great people! My apartment has now become the designated hangout spot since it’s so central, so whenever people needs a place to have fun!
I have a lot of time to myself which is very new for me. I like to keep myself busy with projects, board meetings, and work because it makes me feel productive. Being in Denmark has allowed me the space to get back to doing some of the things I love to do. In my free time, I read and journal which I haven’t been able to do in years! I don’t verbalize my emotions often, but writing them down has been a way to take the emotional strains of being away from home off of my shoulders. I will say that the academic rigor of the semester is starting to roll in, meaning long night, early mornings, and group papers.
Although I’m not home sick, there are some aspects of home and campus that I do miss. I miss the sunshine! Denmark resembles Massachusetts in the winter, so there’s been lots of cloudy cold days. I cherish any bits and pieces of sunshine that I can get. Surprisingly, I miss Blanch! Blanch is the dining hall on my campus back in the states, and usually Blanch is the last place I would want to eat. I miss being able to go to Blanch at 10pm and order a personalized pizza with fries. It’s practically impossible to go into Blanch without running into someone you haven’t seen in weeks. Most of all, I miss my friends! FaceTime, phone calls, and text messages have been great but being able to walk to my friends dorm room in under a minute just isn’t the same. It’s mind blowing to think that the next time I’ll be on campus will be as a senior!
So much time has passed since being here and so much has happened! Before I know it, i’ll be wrapping up the semester!
